Midlife Whisper - The Car Hideout - We've All Been There!

Sometimes I sit in the car outside my own house for ten minutes.

Not because I’m busy. Not because I’m on the phone.

Just because it’s the only place nobody is asking me questions.

No one needs a snack. No one needs an answer. No one needs me to solve, fix, find, remember, organise, respond.

It’s just… silence.

And for a moment, I get to exist without being needed.

No roles.No expectations.No performance.

Just me, staring out the windscreen, letting my nervous system catch its breath like it’s been holding it all day.

Sometimes I don’t even realise how loud my life is until I’m sitting there in the quiet…feeling the hum of the engine,

the weight of the day, the tiny flicker of relief in my chest.

And then—almost immediately—the guilt tries to creep in.

“You should go inside.”“You’re wasting time.”“They’re waiting for you.”

But here’s the truth no one says out loud:

Sometimes the car isn’t avoidance. It’s survival.

It’s the only place where you’re not Mum, wife, problem-solver, emotional support human.

It’s the only place where you’re just… a woman who hasn’t been asked for anything in five whole minutes.

So no, I won’t be rushing in.

I’ll sit here a little longer. In the quiet. In the stillness. In the version of me that doesn’t have to give anything to anyone.

Please respect my privacy during this very important moment of silence.

And if you’ve ever done this too…

I see you.

You’re not alone. You’re just… tired of being everything for everyone.

Love from Missy Moo 🖤
