What did they tell you that you weren't

What did they tell you that you weren't — and how long did you believe them?

For me it was that I wasn't academic enough. That I wasn't focused enough. That I wasn't measuring up. They moved me without asking, put me in a box that didn't fit, and called my inability to squeeze into it a personal failing.

I believed that for years. More years than I should have. More years than it deserved.

So it won't be the same for you. Your verdict will be different. Your box will be a different shape. Your version of not enough will have its own specific words and its own specific voice and its own specific face.

But that's exactly what I want you to think about. Deep in your soul. Not quickly, not practically — really think about it.

Who told you what you couldn't do — and how many years did you spend living inside that verdict?

Because here's what I know after fifty-something years on this earth: The people who told you what you weren't were not experts on you. They were experts on their own limitations.

Drop your answer below. Someone reading needs to know they're not the only one who believed it for too long.

Women who refuse to suffer politely live here.
